Maybe This Is Just Me...

I have been living with my husband, practically since we first got together. That was almost three years ago. Well, we have plenty of money. Not TONS, but we have a savings and live comfortably. Anyway, when we got pregnant, my dad bought my crib and changing table combo. That was his gift to us for my birthday and our christmas gift. Well, THEN he got our stroller and carseat travel set. That was far too much, I told him to stop spending money on our soon to be family! I know that you should take the help when offered and all, but I still get upset because we have savings for a reason and my dad doesn't need to buy everything! lol. Such as today!

The apartment policy is dumb and they will give warnings to tow cars. Well we haven't moved Adam's in a LONG time because the bad wind storm a while back made a tree fall and break the windshield (since my car is in our car port area)...PLUS he carpools with his friend since he never renewed his license (he's awesome like that lol). Anyway, we got a warning so I went to move it to a different parking spot and it wouldn't start. Turns out the battery is shot so my dad came up (lives 20-30 mins away) and we bought a new one. We had the money to get it, plenty in savings but noooo he bought the battery. It was like $92!! WTH dad!! lol. He did it so we can worry about paying to fix the windshield. That I will do soon, i've just been waiting for the weather to clear up.

Am I the only one who feels guilty about someone buying stuff for them? I don't mind some things, but hundreds of dollars that my dad has spent? How do you handle the situations? I guess I can just try and take it as is, I just feel bad haha.

  1. Hi! I'm a new follower and I can totally relate. My daughter is 8 months old and while I was pregnant people bought us a ton of stuff. I was so grateful but at the same time felt terrible because my husband and I could have done it ourselves. Oh well, at least we know people care about us and want to help =)

  2. I absolutely feel guilty when people buy me stuff. I always try to ask for things I can't afford around the holidays (I've even asked my dad to pay my car payment for my birthday) so that I can try to avoid them buying me things/giving me money the rest of the year. It never works.

  3. Rebecca - Welcome to my blog. =]

Thank you both for sharing! Good to know i'm not the only one who feels this way haha. I know that it's good to know people are there for us but I can't help but feel guilty ha.

  4. I have told you this before but you need to understand that dad does this out of love and not because he feels like he needs to. He just wants to help you and you should let him. In his eyes you are still his baby girl and he will always want to take care of you. I will be the same way with my girls when they grow up and start a family. You will soon come to find out that you would do anything and everything for Liam!! I know you have money in savings but save that..don't worry, I am sure you will find something to spend it on:)I love you and can't wait to see you.
Side note...Chloe was working in her bible study the other night and her prayer was "I pray my mommy will be able to visit her sister this summer"!! I thought that was so cute!

    Love you!! Rachel

  5. When Adam was a baby, my Gramma bought tons of stuff for him...including his car seat, stroller, playpen and high chair. She did it because she loved me and she loved him, and it made her so happy to do that kind of stuff. And that's why your Dad does it...because he loves you guys and it makes him happy...and, that's all you need to know. :)

    Love ya....Debi (AKA Gramma Debi)

Tell me anything you would like. I will still love ya no matter what. ;) I see comments as both rewarding and helpful. I want to know your thoughts!
