Welcome Liam Oden

Liam Oden was born on Sunday, June 26th 2011 at 8:34pm (pacific time) via c-section. He weighed in at 9lbs 2.2oz and 18 inches long.

I had my check up on Friday the 24th and I was currently 41 weeks on the dot that day. They finally figured that an induction would take place the following Tuesday (the 28th). When my OB had checked, I was still not dilated at all and barely thinned out. I am not going to lie; I was a bit upset and irritated because I did NOT want an induction. I was really hoping my body would go on its own and I could deliver vaginally. Well, my husband and I went back home and didn't think anything would happen. Little did I know, the contractions started that afternoon around 2pm. They were very irregular, but were still anywhere from 4-12 minutes apart. I started getting a bit excited because up until then, I had never felt a contraction. The following day, I kept feeling the contractions. They were mostly in my back and would spread to my abdomen. Later on that night, I kept feeling the contractions get a bit stronger and decided to start timing them. They ended up being 7 minutes apart on the dot. I finally decided to call the on-call doctor because they were hurting pretty bad. They basically told me what I figured they would; that I should wait until they are at least 5 minutes apart, unless I want to try to come in then. I decided against it and continued to monitor. Little did I know, the next morning would change everything.

The past two nights, Liam had caused such horrible back pain that it would cause me break down and not be able to sleep. The next morning Adam told me to call the hospital because he could tell how much pain I was in. I ended up not doing that, but calling my dad instead. He said he would come up right away and that we should call L&D. Once I called and explained all my pain, they had me come right in. My dad ended up driving us there (about 10-15 minutes away) around 11:30 and we went with the intention that the contractions were nothing yet. Once at the hospital, they got me all checked in and check my vitals; all that jazz. Well, I had told them that I was kind of starting to leak a little fluid but I didn't think it was my water at first because it only happened when I had to use the bathroom. They ran a swab up there and when it came out, the tip was a bit green (which means meconium). They also said I had a bulging bag of water so I am sure that didn't help. From there, everything was crazy to the point where I could hardly keep up.

They moved me to an actual room and told me that I was 7-8cm dilated already. SEVEN to EIGHT?! I didn't even know how to handle the news. I mean, I was just at my OB's office and wasn't dilated. Two days later, they tell me I am almost 8 solid cm?! They then asked if I wanted an epidural and I did since the back pain was horrible. They must have had 5 different doctors and nurses in there, trying to get things done fast. They ended up getting my IV in so I could get the epidural started around 1pm. Let me tell you - it was THE weirdest thing ever, but it felt amazing after. I had never been in so much pain before then. Once that was over and done with, they would check and I was a solid 8cm and then 8-9 and finally 9cm solid. However, they started checking his head and it would not come down far enough.

They ended trying pitocin to get things moving better to see if the stronger contractions would make his head come down. Unfortunately every time they would use it, Liam's heart rate would drop. What a scary experience that was! The staff was amazing and he was back to normal in no time. After trying this three times, they kind of gave up and thought it would be better to go ahead and do a C-section. Adam had talked to one of the doctors later on and apparently they said that my pelvis was probably not going to fit his head. I was really bummed at first and got so upset, but they need to do whats best. Well, we all got dressed and headed in for the c-section around 8pm.

About a half hour later, Liam was born. They then closed me up and sent me off to the recovery room for two hours. They couldn't get him to cry at first but we eventually heard it. Since there was meconium, they wanted him to go to the nicu. However, they let him come back to me about an hour later because he as doing just fine.

I never knew I could love someone or something so small. He is truly the best thing to happen to me and I don't know what I would do if we didn't have him. I am so sore (mostly from the gas pressure) but I am doing ok. Breastfeeding is going ok, but could be better. He needs to latch on better though. We are just glad he is finally here, through all the waiting and anticipation. There is no feeling alike. Adam has been great through everything; from labor, to the c-section, to helping me rest from the c-section, to being an amazing father to Liam. I love my little family!

Making Some Changes

As you can see, I am changing up my blog a little bit. I was getting tired of the old one, but just wanted a new layout mostly. I'm not sure if I am 100% satisfied with it yet. I may tweak it more, we'll see. For now it's just keeping me busy ha. Especially since little Liam isn't here yet. I've been having contractions since yesterday but nothing close enough. They were 7 minutes apart for a while and i'm hoping they will be 5 minutes so I don't have to be induced Tuesday. We shall see though. For now, I hope you enjoy the new layout and hopefully i'll be able to make a REAL update soon!

FINAL POST

How far along: 41 weeks, wow!
Total weight gain: 50lbs eek.
How big baby is: Instead of fruit, I shall say that he is probably almost 8lbs. Who knows though!
Maternity clothes: Same old same old!
Stretch Marks: I haven't noticed any extras.
Sleep: Getting comfy and falling asleep has sucked!
Best moment this week: I've been getting tons of sleep.
Worst moment this week: I am sick, of course. :(
Movement: He has calmed down a bit, but still moves a lot.
Food cravings:
Nothing really, surprisingly.
Belly Button (In or Out): Forever in!
Gender: Our lil Mr.
Labor Signs: I get some horrible pains down there. Been losing my mucus plug too and had bloody show.
What I am looking forward to: Tuesday!
What I miss: Being able to sleep however and being comfy!

Another update: I had my last dr appt today. I was still not dilated ugh and only a little thinned. My dr made the decision that I will be induced tuesday morning at 8:30am. Not going to lie, i'm really disappointed and a little freaked out. I was really hoping he would come on his own. I know, I still have a few days and he could come on his own but it's not looking likely. It's kind of unreal that he will be here soon.

Get Down With The Sickness

Ok, so...not really, BUT I am sick. :( BOO. The Mr had a sore throat for two days and is fine now. However, now I am the one with a sore throat and an ache head, with a stuffy nose. I'm just trying to relax for now since labor could be any day, IF my body wants to cooperate. If not, I'll probably be induced next week sometime I'm sure. We will see at my appointment Friday. On a better note (TMI) - I lost my mucus plug last night! Well a nice big chunk (probably most of it) and then I lost two smaller pieces two different times this morning. Ever since then, I have been feeling crampy and achy down there...as if mother nature was about to strike for the month. Nothing is time-able or anything like contractions..just a constant ache. Fingers crossed this means something will happen soon. I know that even if you lose it, the plug can come back or you may not go into labor for weeks even. However, I would like to think there is some hope there! I really want our little man to come on his own and NOT be induced. For now, my friend brought me raspberry leaf tea, which I LOVE her for. She ran all over trying to find it for me haha. I shall drink that while watching tv and laying down under a blankie on the couch. ;) At least until the Mr gets home later. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow!! I hope all you followers are doing well! I'll have to catch up on blogs later!

Disappointing Appointment

Well my appointment today went ok, but not as well as I hoped. I got my NST done and that took 45mins or so because he was being stubborn at first, but they said that looked ok. Then I got the AFI or whatever to look at the amniotic fluid. My level was 11 and he said that was good too. He checked me and my cervix is a little thinned out, but I'm not dilated at all. :( I go in again Friday for another appointment to do it all over again. I'm hoping Liam will come on his own but it doesn't look like it. Fingers crossed though! He wont let me go past 42 weeks and usually induces around 41-41 1/2 weeks and i'll be 41 weeks friday so maybe next week if nothing happens..who knows.

Father's Day

Dad and I at my baby shower in April
I'm lucky to still have my dad around and for him to always be there when I need him. He only lives about thirty minutes away, so I see him quite a bit. If not, he always calls at least a few times a week; if he doesn't hear from me, he calls anyway to make sure things are ok. Throughout the years, he has supported me in the eight years I was in band at school. He has kept a roof over my head and food on the table. He bought me my first car and let me have almost anything I wanted, simply because I was a 'good' child and did well in school. These days, he still helps out if we absolutely need it. I hate borrowing money or having him help, but if we need it he is there. He helped us out when we had our old apartment (all the money cost killed our savings) and he even helped co-sign my car I have now because he has AMAZING credit. He trusts me and trusts Adam. He knows we will pay him back if we ever borrow money. He knows I wont abuse anything; I mean, not everyone helps you get a new car with single digit interest rates. He is a good dad and I don't always show it, but I hope he knows that! I don't know what I would do with out him.

Now, I was hoping we could add to today and Adam would be father. I mean, he practically is right now. However, Liam is too stubborn to come out to the world because I am still pregnant (at 40 weeks, 2 days). He is just taking his sweet time. However, I know Adam will be a wonderful father when he does arrive. He loves this child so much already and we don't even know what he looks like.

So happy father's day to all you father's and soon to be father's out there!

Sleep: Getting comfy and falling asleep has sucked!
Best moment this week: I've been getting tons of sleep.

A Wee Bit Late

{one} what color best describes you + why?
Sky blue - Content color, but is a little bright and cheery.

{two} how have you changed in the past year?
I am going to soon be a mama! Any day now haha. I have grown up a lot too and matured.

{three} have you ever had any surgeries?
Just got my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was little.

{four} why did you start your blog?
I always liked blogging, but never got into it and then I decided I wanted to keep track of my pregnancy. From there it kind of morphed into a life blog with an emphasis on the baby. :)

{five} what are you looking forward to this summer?
Liam being here and enjoying the sun.

{six} do you have any family traditions for the 4th of July?
My dad and I used to go watch fireworks and join in festivals every year. Now that I am with my husband, we try to go do something but it doesn't always work. Especially since that day is special to us because that is the day we met.

{seven} what’s something new that you’ve tried in the past few months?
That is a very good idea. I don't think I have tried anything new lately. How sad!

{eight} what is the perfect a/c temperature?
66-70 ish I think. If it gets to 80+ my body can't take it and I get sick.

{nine} what was the last movie you saw in the theater?
Fast Five I think. I'm not sure haha. We need to go again soon.

{ten} what song do you think everyone should hear at least once?
That's a tough one! I would have to think about that because I don't think I could pick just one.

Patience

Sorry my dear followers for being MIA the past few days. No, Liam is not here yet. I wish my absence meant that but it doesn't. He seems nice and cozy in there and apparently just wants to be late. I only have four more days until my due date. I even went to Walmart with my dad today just to get some walking in HA. I hope you're doing well and I am still catching up on blogs. I just am lacking in mine. The husband and I are getting very anxious for him to arrive. Even my dad is, it's cute. I'm pretty sure I almost gave these older ladies a heart attack when I told them my due date was friday.

Movement: He has calmed down a bit, but still moves a lot.

It's That Time Again

{one} how many times have you been a bridesmaid/maid of honor?
None yet; I was supposed to be a maid of honor but that friendship ended...

{two} what’s the last thing your do before you fall asleep at night?
My husband and I just lay there and watch tv or see each other for a few minutes.

{three} you just won your dream vacation, all expenses paid. where are you going?
EUROPEEEE. I want to go soooo bad. Mostly Western Europe; Italy, France, all those cool places.

{four} what is your favorite outdoor activity?
Camping or walking trails! My dad and I used to go camping a lot every summer. I miss it!

{five} as a child, what did you want to “be when you grew up”? did you end up there?
I wanted to be a vet, but of course that didn't happen. I hate science and all that, but I love animals. Now that I am older, I want to be a professional photographer. It's a dream, but who knows if it will ever become reality.

{six} what are 3 things your dream home would have that you don’t currently have?
A very deep, jetted tub, a huge kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and a nice big yard ((we live in an apartment haha)).

{seven} what’s for dinner tonight?
Probably just left over chili since the husband is working late all week.

{eight} if someone stopped by your house unannounced on a typical Saturday night, what would they find you doing?
I'm sure (unless we had plans) that the husband and I would just be sitting here watching tv or a movie.

{nine} what’s your average monthly water bill?
Our apartment pays for utilities so we don't pay water.

{ten} what do you do to relax?
Just sit on the couch or lay in bed and watch tv, a movie, or read a book.

I'm Versatile!

I normally don't post more than once, but I got a comment from a blogger;
Lindsey over at Surprisingly Sweet who gave me an award!!

Here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who gave you the award by linking back to them in your post.
2. Tell us seven things about yourself.
3. Award 15 or 16 recently discovered bloggers.
4. Contact those bloggers and let them in on the exciting news!

Seven Things About Me

1. I tend to be the quiet/shy one when I first meet someone, but talking to me online you would never know such a thing.

2. I am obsessed with all types of crime shows; all the CSI's, Criminal Minds, etc...

3. Cooking and baking is fun to me, but I hate the end product because I love to eat it! That and I have yet to master cooking multiple things at once without freaking out haha.

4. I played clarinet from 5th-12th grade (pep, marching, concert and even jazz), yet it now collects dust at my dad's house. I miss it a lot, but I don't see myself playing it outside of school bands.

5. Western Washington has been my home my whole life. I have never lived everywhere else! However, I would love to live in Oregon if I had to move.

6. When I was in 3rd grade, I played softball for one season and then quit because I couldn't hit the ball and our team never won a game HA.

7. Growing up, I was the type of person who never wanted to date or marry someone in the military because I get attached easily and don't do well with separation. Now look at me! I would never change a thing with my husband.

And now the bloggers I am passing the award to:

I am cheating and not doing this :( Unless I stumble upon blogs here and there...THEN I will add some lovely blogs!

Waiting Game

I forgot to update this morning!! What a bad blogger I am. Anyway, I had my doctors appointment this morning. As you may or may not know, everyone has been saying how big of a baby Liam seems to be. I had my ultrasound last week and well it shows that he is not as big as everyone thinks (go figure). My dr said that as long as things go smoothly, we will try for a vaginal birth WOOO. I don't have anything against C-sections or anything. I don't mind surgery or anything either, but I would rather do it vaginally. It seems more 'personal' and 'intimate' to me, if that makes sense? Any who - He said that everything looks good but he is still 'floating' so he has not moved down into position. At least he is still head down though, that's all I care about. I know that some do not engage until labor so we will see! I just feel like he will be late. I would loveee to have him this week or early next but babies will do what they want ha. I know, everyone is telling me "he will come when he is ready" but sometimes I hate that! I know he will and there is nothing wrong with wanting him early. I am past the full term mark so he would be fine and we have everything ready for him. I even put the car seat base in my car!! I HAVE been feeling a lot of pressure lately though so that's better than nothing. Come on Liam!!

I forgot to share this picture with you all! The husband and I went on a little trail down to the 'beach' area this last weekend because it was really hot out. Anyway - I shall show you how awesome of a trooper I am! Over 38 weeks and I can do this! haha
Trail down to the 'beach'
Soaking my feet since it was hot

Can We Start Freaking Out Now?!

The Army likes to mess up everything! I have eleven...ELEVEN days until my due date! Now, who knows when Liam will come... but seriously...any day now!! My husband has to work late this week, this weekEND, AND next week. :( So long story short, I will hardly get to see him. Fingers crossed that Liam wants to arrive soon so that Adam wont have to work late that whole time. I'm super worried he will be at work when I go into labor because we live 25 mins from where he works on post. I mean, I have friends who know and will help me out if I need it - but they work, have their own lives... and it's just hard. I guess we will see though. I'm just a worry wart. All I want is for Adam to be here, so we can go through the whole labor ordeal together but that's the military for ya. Only time will tell...eek.

On another note - I'm sorry I haven't been posting much! Also, that I have only been posting about Liam. My life is too uneventful at the moment! I need other things to post about haha.

Wee Bit Wednesdays and June Fun!

Can I just say that May FLEW by?! I can't believe June is here already. I can't believe our little Liam will be here soooo soon! Just 16 short days until my due date. Not sure when he will come, but hopefully soon. The husband and I are getting antsy haha. For now it's just a waiting game. I am hoping for either this weekend or next weekend...or just at night. I just want my husband to be here when it happens but who knows. I have an ultrasound tomorrow to see just how big he is, so we can plan our attack from there. He seems all nice and cozy in there so far. I haven't had anything happen yet, not even contractions (or even braxton hicks). Wouldn't it be awesome if Liam was here for Father's Day? Other than that, not much else going on. I'm glad summer is practically here. The weather has been on the frits lately though.

Now onto Wee Bit Wednesdays!

{one} do you believe in ghosts?
Not at all, but maybe that's because I have never encountered one?

{two} are you more of a talker or more of a listener?
I am definitely a listener - I am on the shy side so that tends to happen especially when I am still warming up to someone.

{three} would you rather get up early or sleep late?
I would rather get up early, BUT that is only if I get enough sleep. I love my sleep.

{four} if you could instantly become an expert at one type of dance, what type would you choose?
I think contemporary would be amazing! So You Think You Can Dance is one of my favorite shows (so glad the season started again) and contemporary is by far my favorite dance on there; it blows me away!

{five} what's your favorite drink?
Alcoholic: Washington Red Apples HA.
Nonalcoholic: Apple juice or [flavored] water

{six} if your house caught fire and you could only grab three things, what would they be?
Well since my phone would be on me... our cat, my computer (I have sooo many pictures and memories on it) and my camera.

{seven} if you could only visit one restaurant for the next five years, which would it be?
That is a tough one! Probably the Ram or Olive Garden!

{eight} who inspires you the most?
My dad - he has taught me so much and I go to him for help on anything.

{nine} if you had your own talk show, who would your first three guests be?
HA this would be awesome! Jim Carrey (fave actor), Liam Neeson (for my husband - loves him lol) and maybe Meryl Streep (she cracks me up).

{ten} sneakers or sandals?
Sneakers. They are most comfy to me - except right now being pregnant it's easier to slip on flip flops ha.
